Step LIVE!, the showcase event of the Step into Dance programme was bigger than ever this year with over 450 students from secondary schools across London taking part.
Guests caught the dancing bug as soon as they entered the theatre, joining in with the free events spread across all 3 levels of the foyer. There was flash-mobbing, Salsa, drumming from Percussity, demonstrations from the Spanish Dance Society and a very competitive freestyle battle to get everyone in the mood for the main event.
23 schools from 13 London boroughs performed on the main stage, wowing the audience with Breaking, Contemporary, Street, Flamenco, Musical Theatre, Jive and more. Among the performances was a piece created specially to mark the 10th anniversary of the Jack Petchey Foundation, performed by the Step Company dancers and created by the Jasmin Vardimon Company during the Gifted and Talented workshop project.
The show concluded with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday (to the Jack Petchey Foundation), with Jack Petchey himself expressing his appreciation of the event, : ‘It’s phenomenal what the dancers have achieved. They will go home knowing they have done a good job.’
